Frankie Ruth (Ownbey) Wolgamott, 98, passed into glory and the arms of her beloved Savior, Jesus Christ, on 1 January 2025. Frankie was born on November 6, 1926, in Cleveland. She was a graduate of Bradley Central High School, and the National School of Business. During WWII, she was one of the Girls of Atomic City, working at Oak Ridge as a secretary. She was a long-time member of the North Cleveland Baptist Church, where she previously taught the senior women’s Sunday School class.
Frankie and Melvin owned the former Fireside Patio Shop in Cleveland. She was a gifted quilter and seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Lee Wolgamott, Sr; parents, Frank and Sula (Dempsey) Ownbey; and sisters, Esther Still, Betty Ballard, and Nancy Chastain. She leaves behind three children: Melvin Lee Wolgamott, Jr., Rev. Stephen Dee Wolgamott, and Janice Rose Brittain. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, Melanie Williamson, Amy Hodges, Christy Newsome, Dr. Sean Brittain, Rebecca Anderson, Rachel Gosselin, Carrie Mullis, Rev. Stephen Wolgamott, and Lance Brittain; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
The services have been postponed due to inclement weather, a memorial service will be held at a later date and announced by the family and funeral home.
At the family’s request the interment will be private.
