On Thursday, November 26, 2020, in the early hours of Thanksgiving Day, Elenice Penagos passed away at home after a two year battle with cancer. She was one day shy of her 69th birthday. Elly was born and raised in Brazil, immigrating to the U.S. at the age of 18 with her family. She worked long and hard as a Certified Nursing Assistant while raising her two children in Avon Park, Florida. She moved to Chattanooga, TN in 2018 and enjoyed spending time with her family, son Edymar Penagos and his wife Sarah, daughter Edeniz Moore and her husband Jake, and her two grandchildren Mason and Zoe Moore, her pride and joy.
Elly spent her energy caring and providing for her family her whole life. She worked two full time jobs to provide for her children and continued caring for them as they established homes of their own, constantly contributing to home life by cooking, cleaning and caring for her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing the piano and being outdoors as much as possible, taking care of plants and walking in the woods or by the river. She also loved spending time with her extended family, including her sister Neia and her many nieces and nephews.
A small memorial service will be held in Elly’s honor at the Ooltewah SDA Church on December 19th at 3pm to be followed by a small family gathering in Avon Park, Florida in the near future.
