Amelia Phillips, a long-time resident of Cleveland, Tennessee, died Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at a local hospital.
Born in 1925 in Stonewall, Mississippi, Amelia moved to Cleveland in 1953 with her husband Norman Phillips of Bowater. Amelia raised two daughters in Cleveland, Michele Phillips and Carmen Buchanan.
Amelia is preceded in death by her husband, Norman; her daughter, Carmen (Samuel) Buchanan; three sisters, Mary Sue Denney, Willie Mae Lloyd, and Ruby Tharen Logan; and her parents, Cadmus Poole Logan and Ruby Ella. Amelia is survived by her daughter Michele Phillips of Knoxville; her beloved, well-fed dog Sweety; six grandchildren, Monique (Jim) Maples, Logan (Aaron) Spinks, Coz Holloway, Phil (Jaclyn) Holloway, Michele (Okey) Adkins, and Anne (Jim) Peters, and 14 great-grandchildren.
Amelia was a lifelong member of Broadstreet Methodist Church of Cleveland where she was involved in several social groups. Amelia had a passion for traveling and co-owned Southeastern Travel Agency, the first travel agency in Cleveland. She also loved to bird watch from her back porch and watch SEC football. She was a huge Auburn fan. She was an avid reader and shopper, knowing all the people at her favorite stores by name. Amelia cherished her independence, living at home, and continuing to drive up until the last year of life.
Funeral services will be on Friday, November 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee where she will be reunited with her husband.
