Obituary: Mary Jo Tillman, 81, a resident of Englewood, passed away Friday, October 17, 2014 at the family residence. She attended the Mars Hill United Methodist Church. She worked as a nursing assistant at Athens Health Care Center and a baby sitter for many children.

Mrs. Tillman was preceded in death by her husband, John Ray Tillman; daughter, Loreeca Lynn Tillman her parents, Arlie, Bessie and Nellie Newman; brothers, Robert Jay Newman and Nicky Daugherty.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Amanda Tillman of Etowah; daughters, Denisa Shelton of Englewood and Gidget Whitener of Madisonville; grandchildren: Codi Tillman, Jonathan Tillman, Brett Tillman, Heath Givens, Brandi and Jason Hitt, Maci Shelton and fiancée, Trey Foley, Summer Shelton, Amanda Shelton, Miranda Shelton, Ashley Shelton, Melody Whitener and AJ Bree Green; she was expecting first great-grandson, Branson Ezekiel Hitt in February; brother and sister-in-law, Reece and Lilo Newman of Elgin, SC; sister-in-law, Betty Newman of Knoxville, TN; several nephews and nieces and cousins also survive; special friends, Frances Bray and Janie Buckner.

Service: Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2014 in the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home of Etowah with Reverend Gayle Crabtree officiating. Interment will follow in Mars Hill Cemetery with her grandsons and nephews serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2014 at the funeral home.
