Obituary: Lloyd “Sonny “Thompson, Jr., age 78, of Etowah, passed away Monday, May 12, 2014, at a local hospital. A native of Owingsville, KY, he had lived the last 16 years in McMinn County. He was retired from the printing industry after 44 years of service. He was an avid sports fan an enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Thompson, Sr., and Mary Warner Thompson, and sister, Marilyn Montgomery.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Wanda A. Thompson; children, Richard Thompson and wife Sandra of Sharpsburg, KY, and Erin Neal and husband Chris of Maysville, KY; grandchildren, Heather Thompson, Andrew Thompson, Amber Ruder and husband Joshua, Michelle Neal and Kane Neal; great-grandchild, Payton Thompson; sister, Helen Donohew of Owingsville, KY, and mother-in-law, Bertha Mullinax. Several other extended family members and friends also survive.
Service: A graveside service will be held at 3p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Mars Hill Cemetery with Rev. Chris Neal officiating.
