Obituary: Doyle Murphy, age 67, of Etowah, passed away Sunday morning, April 27, 2014,at a Murfresboro hospital. The son of the late James and Nora Cook Murphy, he was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County. He was an Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War and was of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and spending time outdoors and with his family.
He was preceded in death by a niece, Dana Murphy.
He is survived by his children, Misty Prock and husband Keith of Cleveland, Heather Massengill and husband Steve of Madisonville, and Jason Murphy of Knoxville; seven grandchildren, Zachary Prock, Jake Prock, Drew Massengill and wife Amanda, Brett Yates and husband Josh, Zeke Massengill , Connor Britton, and Brooklyn Murphy; three great-grandchildren, Joie Yates, Daniel Massengill, and Anna Massengill; sisters, Christine Coleman and husband Darrell of Knoxville, Shirley Sistzlar and husband Randy of Etowah, Rebecca T. Murphy of Etowah, Gail Townsend and husband Mick of Wichita Falls, TX; brothers, Billy Ray Murphy and wife Janice of Etowah, Jerry Murphy and wife Barbara of Delano , and Roger Murphy and wife Arlene of East Etowah; and close friends Jack and Chuck. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive.
Service: A graveside service will be conducted 4p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2014, from the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Patrick McCulley officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
