Obituary: Grady Gene Smith, II, age 48, of Athens, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at his residence. A native of Huntsville, AL, Grady spent the majority of his life in McMinn County. A 1983 graduate of McMinn Central High School, he enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a former Volunteer Fireman for the Etowah Fire Department.
He was preceded in death by his father, Grady Gene Smith; niece, Cindy Marie Smith; maternal grandparents, Charles and Geraldine Burton; and paternal grandparents, Gene and Geneva Lou Smith.
He is survived by his mother, JoAnn Smith of Reliance; brother, Charles Smith of Reliance; nieces and nephews, Brittany Smith , Mathew Smith, and Christopher Smith; Aunts and Uncles, Jim and Judy Payne of Tellico Plains, Jan Taylor of Athens, Jamia and Roy Hogan of Athens, and Delbert and Narvalene Smith of Etowah . Several other extended family members and friends also survive.
Service: A graveside service will be conducted at 3p.m. Sunday, March 30, 2014 from Campground Cemetery with Pastor Roy Hogan officiating.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help defray the cost of medical and final expenses.
