Obituary: Bruce Cardin, age 81 of Englewood, passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at his home following an eleven year battle with lung cancer. Born On December 22, 1932, Bruce was a native of Monroe County and spent most of his life in McMinn County .He was a thirty –three year millwright at Bowater and a veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruel Cardin and Esther Cardin Carpenter; sister, Ruby Ruella Roach; mother and father-in-law, Willard and Kate Wilson, and son-in-law, Ruel Wilson.
He is survived by his loving wife , Mary Ruth Cardin of Englewood; two daughters and son-in-law, Karen Wilson of Englewood, and Tanya and Jim McElhaney of Madisonville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Edna Cardin of Riceville and Paula and Betty Cardin of Englewood; three grandsons, Bruce Grinter and wife Niki of Englewood, Tyler McElhaney and fiancée Viola Luo , both residing in Sinagapore, and Trevor McElhaney of Atlanta; four great-grandchildren, Bruce, Amberly, Sophie, and Hadley Grinter, and one step granddaughter, Camy Fretz. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended friends also survive.
Service: Family and friends will gather at Sunrise Cemetery in Englewood for a graveside service at 3p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2014.
At Bruce’s request, there will be no formal visitation.
