Obituary: Philip Merle Newberry, age 75, of Etowah, passed away Friday, March 7, 2014, at Erlanger Medical Center. A native and lifelong native of McMinn County, he was retired after 35 years of service from Etowah Utilities.
A son of the late Clyde Sr. and Alice Fortner Newberry, he was preceded in death by nine brothers, H.C., Fred, Ed, Charlie, Frank, Carson, Mark, Glen, and Don Newberry; and one sister, Lemma Newberry Burchfield.
Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Linda Hafley Newberry of Etowah; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Gaylord Butch of Alpharetta ,GA and Dianne and Steve Fain of Etowah; one sister and brother-in-law, Sibyl and Bruce Nunley of Etowah. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family member and friends also survive.
Service: Graveside services will be conducted 11:30 Monday, March 10, 2014, at Pond Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Pastor Don Harris officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10-11a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please consider contributions to the McMinn County Humane Society.
