Obituary:  Johnny Ray Stinnett, age 52, of Athens, passed away Friday, January 31, 2014 at a Knoxville hospital. A native of Dalton, GA, he spent most of his life in McMinn County. He enjoyed watching Westerns, especially, Lonesome Dove, and was a devoted to his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is preceded in death by his father, Lloyd William Stinnett.

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Teresa Ann Stinnett; children, Alan James Stinnett and girlfriend Brandy Widner of Athens, Jesse Ray Stinnett and wife Valarie of Oak Ridge, Nathan D. William Stinnett and wife Kara of Block Island, RI, Stacy Ann Mulkey of Athens, Jonathan Lee Stinnett of Chatsworth, GA, Lacey Danielle Stinnett of Riceville, and Daniel Jess Sherman Stinnett and wife Terri of Athens; mother, Mary Elizabeth Bowers of Athens; brother Farrell Bowers and wife Kathy of Sweetwater; special brother-in-law, James McCowan of Etowah; and 15 grandchildren.Several nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members and close friends also survive.

Service: Funeral services will be conducted at 7pm Monday, February 3, 2014, from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Taylor officiating . A graveside service will be 11 am Tuesday February 4, 2014 at Mars Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-7pm Monday at the funeral home prior to the service.
