Obituary: PAUL EDWARD SWAFFORD, age 79, of Etowah, passed away Wednesday evening, December 25, 2013, at his residence. He was a native of Pikeville, TN and lived in Battle Creek, MI for 42 years before moving to McMinn County where he spent the last 20 years after his retirement. He was retired from General Motors after 27 years of service and was a member of Level Park Baptist Church in Battle Creek for many years. He was and avid bowler, and enjoyed keeping a garden and spending time with his large and loving family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Major and Rosa Burdett Swafford; sister Virginia Harrell; brothers, Robert, Thomas, Kenneth , and James Swafford.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Juanita Swafford; children, Richard Swafford and wife Loretta of Athens, Paul Swafford and wife Lorraine of Battle Creek, MI, Ronald Swafford and wife Barbara of Etowah, Michael Swafford and wife Tammy of Cleveland, Mark Swafford and wife Tammy of Battle Creek, MI, and Tracey Swafford of Etowah; grandchildren, Jeffrey Swafford, Jennifer Swafford, Julia Henderson and husband Leon, April Carlson, Andrew Waller, Amber Swafford, Megan Swafford, Eric Davis, Amy Swafford, Matthew Swafford, Zach Swafford, Samantha Swafford, Aaron Swafford, Corporal Morgan Smith and fiancee’ Brittany, and Catherine Swallows and husband Chris; brothers, Billy Swafford and wife Margaret of Chattanooga, and Marvin Swafford of Chattanooga, and 31 great grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends also survive.
Service: Funeral services will be conducted at 2p.m. Tuesday, December 31,2013 from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Reverend Joe Davis officiating . Interment will follow at Smyrna Cemetery. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the services.
The family will receive friends from 5-8p.m. Monday, December 30, 2013 at the funeral home.
