Clifford Elick “ C.E.” Armstrong, age 87, of Etowah, passed away Sunday morning at a local healthcare facility. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, C.E. was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army Air Corps specifically in the Phillipines and Okinawa in the Pacific Theatre. He enjoyed farming, fishing, and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Ruth Armstrong; parents Ernest and Janie Newman Armstrong; sister, Zoni Moore, and brother, George William Armstrong.
He is survived by children Dianne Shell of Etowah, Chris Armstrong and wife Laura of Etowah ,and Amber Banks and husband Bobby of Etowah; grandchildren, Melissa Lowe and husband Frankie of Etowah, Ryan Armstrong and wife Brandi of Athens, Leslie Sharp and husband Trey of Cleveland , Alexandria Lexi Williams , Tyler Wiliams , and Chelsea Banks all of Etowah; great grandchildren Tearyn” Lacey” Roberts , Kennedy, Preston and Bennett Armstrong, and Sidney Sharp, and sister, Elizabeth Miller of Etowah. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends also survive.
Service: A celebration of the life of Mr. C.E. Armstrong will be conducted at 7p.m., Thursday December 26, 2013, from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Pastor Russ Maples officiating. Military honors will conclude the services. Interment will be private.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church of Englewood Children’s Ministry or the Keith United Methodist Church Children’s Ministry.
