Obituary: Ernestine Walker Runion, 75, of Athens, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at a local hospital. She was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County and was of the Baptist faith. She was an avid reader, who had a collection of over three hundred hard cover books that she wanted to donate to E.G. Fisher Library after her passing. She loved camping, fishing, and going on vacations. She also enjoyed painting Bob Ross’ Prints, and most of all, she enjoyed having her grandchildren spend time with her as they were growing up, and being with her granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Myrtle Walker; sister, Nola Walker, and brother, Hubert Walker; a very dear friend, Neva Nichols, and a special little niece, Amber McDonald.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Roy Runion; two daughters and sons-in-laws, Kathy and Wayne Land of Calhoun, and Lim and David Coleman of Athens, and son Eugene Runion of Athens; grandchildren, Amanda Duckett and husband Bradley of Athens, Stephen Coleman and special friend Nikki and Sierra of Athens, and Autumn Land of Calhoun; great-granddaughter, whom she loved dearly, Kara Duckett; sister-in-laws, Lillie Walker of Cleveland, Fannie Hudson of North Carolina, Viola Hester of Decatur, and Sadie Minge of Cleveland, and several nieces and nephews. She loved her two sons-in-laws as if they were her own sons, as she enjoyed teasing them. After the death of her sister, she was a stand-in mom to her niece and nephew, Amy Lay and Randy Walker, and was mamaw Tennie Adam and Travis McDonald and Samantha and Rachel Walker.
Service: Funeral services will be conducted 11a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014, from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home, with Reverend Frank Kincannon officiating. Interment will follow in the McMinn Memory Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m., Friday, January 109, 2014 at the funeral home.
