Obituary: Ora “Claude” Derrick, age 84, of Englewood, went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was born to the late Charlie and Vennie Johnson Derrick on October 28, 1928. He was an avid fox hunter and gardener and was a longtime member of Englewood First Church of GOD. His passions in life were his faith, his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by sisters, Donnie Derrick and Sue Gibson, and brothers, Richard , Robert, and Curtis Derrick.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Emma Ingram Derrick; daughters Rosa Doss and husband Steve of Niota, Loretta Laney of Englewood and Teresa Crabtree and husband Barry of Cleveland; grandchildren, Amy Melton and husband Don, Amanda Moore and husband Anthony, Rachel Laney, Brittany Crabtree, Benjamin Crabtree, and Nicholas Crabtree; great-grandchildren, Chase, Max , and Samuel Melton; sisters Ruth Torbett and husband Greely of Englewood ,and Lucille Watson of Englewood; brother, E.L.Derrick and wife Alma Rae of Madisonville; sister-in-law, Velma Lee Derrick of Englewood, and brother-in-law, Curtis Gibson. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members also survive.
Service: Funeral services will be conducted 8 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2013, from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Cummings and Pastor Rick Patterson officiating. The family will receive friends from 5- 8p.m. on Friday.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Mars Hill United Methodist Cemetery with Bill Clark, Mike Dingess, Kenneth Gay, Randy Daugherty, and George Carroll serving as pallbearers.
