Obituary: Cheryl Denise Leatherwood, age 53, of Athens, passed away Thursday September 26, 2013, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. A native and lifelong resident of Athens, TN, Cheryl was born to J.R. and Margie Bowers, and was the middle child of three sisters and one brother, Sharon, Robin, and Tracy.
She was known for her nurturing love , strength, selflessness, and faithful servitude to the Lord. Throughout her life and battle with cancer, she demonstrated an unwavering faith that was admired by all.
“But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.” Psalms 13:5
After graduating from McMinn Central High School, she met the love of her life, Larry. They were united on November 19, 1977. Married 35 years, Larry and Cheryl raised their two children Leah and Levi in Athens, TN. A woman of faith and the heart of the Leatherwood family, Cheryl shaped their spiritually by her tireless Christian example. She had an exceptional and very special love for her grandchildren, Angel and Iris. A Life well Lived.
She is preceded in death by her father, J. R. Bowers.
Survivors include her loving husband of 35 years, Larry Leatherwood of Athens
Children and spouses, Leah Witenbarger and husband David of Vass , N.C, and Levi and wife Cindy Leatherwood of Sweetwater

Mother, Margie Bowers of Englewood ; Sisters/Brother and spouses, Rhonda and Jerry Collins of Athens, Sharon and Jim Lupo of Cleveland, Robin and Robby Nesbitt, of Englewood, and Tracy and Honei Bowers of Englewood
In Laws: Tom and Lura Lee Leatherwood of Athens and Teresa and Randy Kirkland of Athens
Several beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive.
Service: Funeral services will be conducted Monday, September 30, 2013 at 8p.m. from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Minister Robbie Nesbitt officiating
Graveside services will be held Tuesday 11 A.M. from McMinn Memory Gardens. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the services.
The family will receive friends from 6-8p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
