Obituary: Charles Robert Leslie, age 83, of Riceville, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2013, at his residence. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, He was a Army Veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict,a fifty year member of the Etowah Masonic Lodge, a longtime member of the Communication Workers of America, and a longtime member of the Pioneers of America. Robert served as a Deacon at Double Springs Baptist Church for over thirty years. After retirement from AT&T, Robert enjoyed working on his farm and raising beef cattle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Henry and Elma Carver Leslie; brother, Jack Leslie, and sister, Faye Leslie.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Nita Jones Leslie; children, Debbie Henry and husband Steve of Hernando, MS, Robert Larry Leslie of Riceville, Lisa Tarver and husband Chris of Winder, GA, and Scott Leslie and wife Cindy of Riceville; grandchildren, Misty Szewczyk and husband Brian, Chris Henry and wife Rebecca, Candace Leslie, Brandon Leslie, Christopher Tarver and wife Lindsay, Caleb Tarver, Hunter Leslie, and Hailey Leslie; six great- grandchildren, and sister Joan Standridge and husband Bill of Riceville.
Service: Funeral services will be conducted 11A.M. Wednesday, September 4, 2013, from Double Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Harmon and Dr. Shane Arnold officiating.
Interment will follow in the Double Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Chris Henry, Steve Henry, Brian Szewczyk, Christopher Tarver, Caleb Tarver, and Chris Tarver serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the J.K. Pickens Sunday School Class and members of the Riceville Hardware Store Club. Military honors and a white dove release ceremony will conclude the services.
The family will receive friends from 6-8p.m. Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at the funeral home and from 10-11.am., Wednesday at the church.
