Obituary: James Esley Black, age 85, of Athens, passed away Friday morning at NHC of Athens. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was the son of the late Merritt and Mollie Crush Black and was of the Baptist faith. James enjoyed building and selling Ham radios and he was owner and operator of Spurling Fire Alarms for many years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Jim C. Black in 2006.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Glenna Burke Black of Athens; loving daughter-in-law Helen Black of Athens; special granddaughter Robin (Tony) Garrett of Madisonville; great-grandson Blake Garrett of Madisonville, and a brother-in-law, Jimmy Don (Dodie) Burke of Athens.
Service: Memorial services will be held at a later date.
