Obituary: Betty Thomson , age 78, of Etowah, passed away at Woods Memorial Hospital on Saturday, March 30,2013.She was a native of Greenback, TN and lived in Etowah for over 40 years. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed listening to gospel music and was an avid Cook.
She is preceded in death by her parents; Robert and Katie Shadden Hipps; sister Margaret Longmire; brothers, Bud and James Hipps.
She is survived by her loving husband of 46 ½ years, Jay Thomson; sons Gary Walker and wife Karen of Etowah, and Robert “Wes” Thomson and wife Connie of Great Falls, Montana; grandchildren Stephanie Farmer and husband Travis of Athens, Katie Johnson and husband Dennis of Etowah, Chris Walker of Athens, and Ashley Walker of Etowah; 6 grandchildren and a brother Earl Hipps of Maryville, TN. Several nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
Service: Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Friday , April 5 2013 from the Chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with reverend Mark Hensley officiating. Internment will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Greenback ,TN with current and former members of the Etowah Rescue Squad serving as active and honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 11A.M. until 1 P.M on Friday.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Betty’s name to the Etowah Rescue Squad
