Obituary:  Timothy Paul Carter, 64 reunited with his love, Donna on Wednesday, June 24th, 2015.

Born in Knox County on Groundhog’s Day 1951, Tim was the son of the late Paul and Hazel Carter.

Raised in Etowah, Tim had 2 passions as a young man: boy scouts and baseball. A member of Troop 74, Tim achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. A testament to his perseverant nature, this was accomplished without the guidance of his father who had passes away when Tim was a young boy. Tim loved baseball and played Little League, high school and college ball. He started his pitching career at Etowah High School and then continued at McMinn Central. Tim received a baseball scholarship to Austin Peay University in Clarksville.

Caught up in the fluid, ever-changing times of the late 60’s, Tim, a free spirit, hitch-hiked his way throughout the Eastern United States working various itinerant jobs.

Eventually Tim returned to Etowah where he found his destiny. On October 28th, 1978, Tim married his soul mate Donna Clark Payne. With that union, Tim also became part of a vibrant and at times, turbulent blended family.

Tim and Donna continued life together for 36 years until her death on May 25th of this year. During their journey, they started and ran Carter Construction Company and Carter Cleaning Company. They also enjoyed traveling and experiencing many of God’s wondrous gifts. Tim delighted in all things natural and some of his favorite times were spent hiking with Donna and friends in the Smokies. Tim was an occasional golfer and for some reason understood only by fellow golfers, never missed an opportunity to chase a little white ball around a course.

Tim was a skilled carpenter and general contractor and responsible for many of the beautiful homes in McMinn County. He also shared his knowledge and skill with his employees and nephews, providing them with the opportunity to learn a trade and perfect a skill.

Tim possessed an indominable spirit of optimism never failing to see the good in all of us. Forgiving by nature, he spoke ill of no one and tried to exemplify Christ-like qualities through is words and actions. Tim loved Jesus and His teachings and shared Christ’s love with all that he met. Tim was a regular member of Cambria Baptist Church and delighted in their warmth and fellowship.

Besides his parents and beloved wife, he was preceded in death by his brother Michael, brothers-in-law Glenn Jenkins, Joe, Don, Sidney and Mickey Clark, Jerry Reynolds, sisters-in-law Ann, Kathy, Sue Clark and son-in-law Mike Sanson.

Tim left behind a host of family and friends including his stepdaughters Shawn Sanson of Etowah, Kevi Payne of Cleveland and Kourtney Hutcheson of Athens. He loved his grandchildren beyond measure. Sara Woods of Decatur, Alex and Kelly Sanson of Etowah, Chandler Hutcheson of Benton and Whitney Hutcheson of Athens. Blessings continued with great grandchildren Kaden Sanson, Henry Woods and Trinity Sanson all of Etowah. He will be greatly missed by his sister Judy Jenkins of Englewood, sister and brother-in-law Kris and Ronny Huskey of Madisonville and precious cousins Ann and John Barnes of Etowah. Many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who have shared his light and will treasure his memory.

Service: We who knew him best know that he and Donna could never survive without the other, and now, their joy is replete.

Services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 2015 from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home.
