Obituary: Algie “Al” Justice Black, Jr., age 79, of Etowah, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2015, at his residence surrounded by his family. A native of Michigan, he had lived the last 35 years in Etowah and along with his wife, Lottie, was a charter member of the Etowah Church of GOD. He was retired from General Motors and was an avid sports enthusiast. He played and coached softball and baseball and touched many young men’s lives through coaching and being a mentor.
He was preceded in death by his wife , Lottie Black in November of 2014; parents, Algie Black, Sr and Bertha Mae Hall Black; sister, Daisy Hogan; and brothers, Robert, Guy, Glen, Clarence, and Ray Black.
Al is survived by children, Carl Black of Pontiac , Michigan, Jane Perry and husband Marion of Riceville, Marty Cischke and husband Steve of Rochester Hills, Michigan, Kat Perry and husband Mark of Riceville, Adam Black and wife Angel of Rochester Hills, Michigan, and Wendy Weber of Georgia; eighteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia Bryan of Ortonville, Michigan; and a special friend and brother-in-law, Ricky O. Nance of Etowah. Several other extended family members and friends also survive.
Service: A celebration of Al’s life will be conducted 2p.m. Monday, April 13, 2015 from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Pastor Zach Davis officiating. Interment will follow in McMinn Memory Gardens with a white dove release concluding the services.
The family will receive friends from 12-2p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
