Obituary: Sadie Horton Burris, 84, of Etowah went home to be with the Lord on January 24, 2015. A longtime resident of McMinn County she held posts in many local enterprises prior to her retirement from Morgan Manufacturing. She was well regarded for her strong work ethic and counted gardening as well as home improvement among her many pastimes. In addition to her more physically demanding hobbies, Mrs. Burris also enjoyed porcelain doll collecting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she affectionately referred to as her "little Tojo's." Mrs. Burris was of Christian faith and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents Hobart and Ibba Horton, husband Verlin Burris, sister Ruby Pearman, brothers Eastly Horton, Wade Horton and son-in-law Harold Dean Curtis.
Survivors include sons E.L Burris(Carolyn), Ron Burris, daughters Geraldine Eaton, Irene Curtis, Glenda Jones(R.L.) , Debbie Cole. Grandchildren Nathan and Marquita Burris, Jason Eaton(Jennifer), Kim Turner(Jason), Heather Curtis, Mandy Winebrinner(Mike), Wesley Curtis(Sharon Li), Michele Johnson, Jamie McDonald, Chris Cole, Deidre Young(David). Fourteen great-grandchildren.
The family of Sadie Horton Burris would like to express their deep appreciation to the nurses and staff of Spring City Care and Rehabilitation Facility for their compassionate care and support.
Service: The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 27th from 12-2 pm at Serenity Funeral Home. Funeral service follows at 2 pm and will be conducted by Brother Robbie Combs (Pastor at The Warehouse Church of Etowah). Committal will be at Greenhill Cemetery immediately following funeral services.
