Obituary: William R. “Bill” Curtis, age 79, of Etowah, passed away Monday, September 1, 2014, at a local healthcare facility. A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, he was a longtime member of Woodward Ave Church of GOD. He never met a stranger and loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a strong man of faith who loved his church and praising the LORD and is now singing with his King.
He is preceded in death by his loving daughter, Vicki Lynn Curtis; parents, Bill and Odetta Stone Curtis; sisters, Eva Blevins and Carrie Pressley; and brother Dr. Harold Curtis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sallie Curtis; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Lynn Gay of Delano; son Butch Curtis; grandchildren, Kimberly Schumann and husband Tom of Etowah, Lindsey Plemons and husband Daniel of Englewood, Whitney Curtis of Tellico Plains, Katie and Billy Jo Curtis both of Chattanooga; sister, Mary Jane Newman of Etowah; brothers, James Curtis and wife Wanda of Cleveland, Charles Curtis and Wife Reba of Etowah, Scott Curtis, of Etowah, and Jerry Curtis and wife Ellen of Michigan; sister-in-law, Irene Curtis; extended family, Barbara and Wesley Rogers of Tellico Plains, Leona and Tommy Haney of Etowah, and Karen and Dean Tullock of Etowah; and special friend Will Jenkins of Delano. Several nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends also survive.
Service: A celebration of Bill’s Life will be conducted at 7p.m. Thursday September 4, 2014 at the Woodward Ave Church of GOD with Pastor Clifford Watters and Pastor Wayne Fritts officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014, at Green Hill Cemetery with Dennis Rutland, Johnny Lipps, Bill Gentry, Andrew Hill, Tommy Haney and Ronnie Davis serving as active pallbearers. The Keenagers of Woodward Ave Church of GOD will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m.Thursday at the Church.
The family will like to express their appreciation to Dr Samuel Olsen and the staff at McMinn Memorial Health and Rehab for their excellent care.
