Obituary: Don Longworth, age 59 of Delano, passed away Tuesday morning, July 8, 2014. He was a native of Kokomo, Indiana and had been a resident of Tennessee since 1992.
Throughout his life, he owned several successful businesses. Most recent among them was a construction business which he operated for 20 years.In addition to his business, he volunteered his time atthe West Polk Fire and Rescue Squad where he served for the past 20 years achieving the rank of Chief. In 2002, he became an employee of the Etowah Fire Department, where he served the community as Captain until his recent retirement.
Don was a longtime member of Delano Baptist Church, where he had previously served as youth director. He was a leader and mentor in his community, a loyal friend to those around him, and the most loving grandfather, father, and husband. He will be missed by many.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Roy Longworth; his brother, Micheal Longworth; and his niece, Anita Warwick.
Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Donna Longworth of Delano; mother, Edith Longworth of Etowah; two daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and John Bohannon of Etowah and Lisa and Adam Casteel of Delano; five beloved grandchildren, Alyssa, Krista, and Brady Bohannon of Etowah and Carter and Cooper Casteel of Delano; sister, Diana Scott of Etowah; a devoted friend, Dustin Bates of Athens. Several other extended family members and friends also survive.
Service: A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 8:00 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at Delano Baptist Church with Dr. John Powers officiating. Family and friends will assemble at 10:30 Saturday morning at Serenity Funeral Home to go in a Fireman’s Procession to Greenhill Cemetery for an 11:00 graveside service. Pallbearers will be Wesley Davis, Lynn Gay, Adam Hafley, John Hensley, Coleby Hooker, Chris Jones, Luke Landers, and Blake Wood.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. on Friday evening at Delano Baptist Church.
