Obituary: Dorothy J. Martin, age 59, of Athens, passed away Friday, May 30,2014, at a Knoxville hospital. A native of Knoxville, Dorothy spent the majority of her life in McMinn County. She was a loving and caring person who loved to fisha dn spend time with her family, especially with her grandkids. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Hugh and Muriel L Crain Hodges; granddaughter, Makayla Rodriguez; sisters, Linda Mosier and Terry Hodges ; and brother, Johnnie Hodges.
She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Howard Martin; children and spouses, Howard Dean Martin and wife Patricia Ann, Melissa Gouge and husband Tommy, April Rodriguez and husband Pablo, and Kevin Howard Martin all of Athens; eight grandchildren, Jamie Martin and wife Chelsea, Deann Martin , Brett Gouge, Kyle Gouge, Seth Martin, Tiger Gouge, Gabby Rodriguez, and Kaden Martin; three great-grandchildren, Chelsea Crisp, Aiden Martin and Austin Martin; siblings, Mary King and husband Rick of Decatur, Danny Ray Hodges and wife Pat of Athens, Joyce Vann and husband Danny of Etowah, Kathy Bowers and husband Farrell of Athens, and Jerry and Joe Hodges of Athens; sister-in-law, Debbie Hodges; and mother-in-law, Anna Belle Martin. Several nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends also survive.
Service: A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be conducted at 2p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2014, from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Pastor Ronnie Crain and Pastor Joe Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Hampton Cemetery
The family will receive friends from 12-2p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
