Obituary: Joe Dean Lanning, 73, a native and lifelong resident of Polk County passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014 in a Chattanooga hospital. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Delano. He retired from Bowater after 30 years of service.

He was an avid golfer and hunter. He enjoyed sitting at the Roundtable at the Corner Market. He was a wonderful father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

Mr. Lanning was preceded in death by his wife, Lorene Prueitt Lanning; parents, R.L. Lanning and Irene Sewart Lanning; grandchildren, Joey Brancefield and Amanda Perry.

Survivors include his two children: Jodi Lanning of Delano and Robby Lanning and wife, Kim of Reliance; two grandchildren: Seth Wyrick of Delano and Bo and Gatlin Lannig of Reliance; three great-grandchildren: Jade Brancefield of Delano, Aierie Walker and Aalen Wyrick of Benton; one brother, Larry “Ode” Lanning and wife, Dianne of Etowah; special friend, Angie Vaughn of Reliance; great-aunt, Jean Eaves of Delano; several nieces, nephews and other extended family members and good friends also survive.

Service: A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Benton Memorial Gardens with Pastor Robbie Hatcher officiating.

There will be no formal visitation.

The family requests that memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Cleveland or Athens Animal Shelter.
