Charles Edward Woody, age 72, of Decatur, passed away Sunday morning, September 13, 2015 at a local healthcare facility. The son of the late Oakley Erwin Woody, Jr. and Lassie Weaver Woody, Charles was born on December 9, 1942 in Chattanooga, TN and spent the majority of his life in Cleveland and Meigs County. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was involved in his community as a member of several civic organizations as well as a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He had worked several years for the Chattanooga Free Press and the Daily Post Athenian. Charles was a member of Westwood Baptist Church and had most recently attended Calvary Baptist Church in Riceville and Cottonport Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, He is preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann Woody; brother, Oakley Erwin Woody III; and grandson, Bradley McGuire. He is survived by daughters, Moneica McGuire and husband Michael of Decatur and Nikki Pike and husband Gene of Reliance; step-children, Diane Vaughn of Polk County, Eddie Couch of Benton, Susan Wilson of Athens; grandchildren, Jeffrey McNeely of Decatur, Alex McGuire of Decatur, Krissi Pike of Reliance, Jason Pike, Taylor McGuire of Decatur; sister, Judy Bingham and husband Rev. Jimmy Bingham of Kentucky; mother-in-law, Geneva Hoover of Athens; and special friends, Ginger Woody, Charlie Kyle and Ron Belinski. Several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive. The family would like to express their appreciation to Hospice Care of East Tennessee and Hospice of Chattanooga and especially Casey Griffith for their compassionate care. A Celebration of the Life and Home Going for Charles Woody will be conducted at 8p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2015, from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Brother Jimmy Lewis, Chaplain Mike Justice, and Brother Larry Johnson officiating.
