Donald Leon Clayton, age 79, of Athens, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at a local healthcare facility. Born August 7, 1936, to the late Fate and Ollie Gibbs Clayton, he was a lifelong resident of McMinn County and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Donald was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crafts and spending time with family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Clayton was preceded in death by his son, David Clayton; infant sister, Helen Clayton; and brother, Jimmy Clayton. He is survived by children, Judy Williams of Athens , Jeff Clayton of Athens, and Jennifer Crisp and husband Darrell and Athens ;grandchildren, Megan Williams of Athens , Erin Mosely of Athens , Amy Guilmenot of Cleveland, Scott Clayton of Athens , Erica Crisp of Athens , Zachary Crisp of Athens ; brother, Kenneth Clayton of Athens ; and sister, Violet Henderson Athens . Thirteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive. A memorial service will be held at 8p.m. Friday, October 23, 2015, from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Brother Jimmy Lewis officiating.
