William R. "Bill" Humbert, age 81, of Etowah, passed away Saturday morning, October 24,2015 at a local healthcare facility. Born on February 15, 1934 in Monroe County to the late William Henry and Inez Yates Humbert, Bill had lived the majority of his life in McMinn County. He was retired from Athens Bed Company and enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Casteel Humbert; sisters, Pauline Whitaker and Mary Mendahal; and brothers, James, Eugene, and Jay Hugh Humbert. He is survived by his wife , Lucille Swafford Humbert of Etowah; step-daughter, Rebecca Steel of Delano; step-sons, Robert D. Leamon, Sr. of Delano and Timothy Ray Colbaugh of Old Fort ; step-grandchildren, Angela Breeden, Cheryl Perry and husband Jason, Daniel Leamon, Wendy Childers and husband Richard; and sisters, Faye Davis and husband A.W. of Decatur and Betty Jo Coffey of Athens. Eight step great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 1p.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2015 from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Brother Mason Holliday officiating. Interment will follow in Conasauga Cemetery with nephews serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour on Tuesday at the funeral home.
