Larry Ervin Leatherwood, age 58, passed away Thursday morning, December 10, 2015, at his home. Born in Athens, on September 23, 1957 to Tommy and Lura Lee Leatherwood, he was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County. He married Cheryl Leatherwood on November 19, 1977 and retired from AT&T. Larry was a longtime member and former deacon of Double Springs Baptist Church. Larry was known for his great storytelling, humorous nature, mentorship, strong will, love for his family (especially his precious grandchildren) and his strong faith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cheryl Leatherwood He is survived by children, Leah Whitenbarger and husband David Whitenbarger, Jr ; Levi Leatherwood and wife Cindy Leatherwood; grandchildren, Angel Leatherwood, Iris Whitenbarger and Selah Whitenbarger; parents, Tommy and Lura Lee Leatherwood; and sister, Teresa Kirkland and husband Randy Kirkland.
A celebration of Larry’s life will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 12, 2015 from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Pastor Randy Harmon and Minister Robby Nesbitt officiating.
Family and friends will assemble at 11a.m. Sunday, December 13 at McMinn Memory Gardens for the committal service.
The family will receive friends from 5-7:30 p.m. on Saturday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital at
