Sylvia Jean Wingate, age 73, of Englewood, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at her home. Born in Jacksonville, Florida on December 30, 1942, to the late Elmer Clifford and Thelma Marie James Sheppard, she lived the past 36 years in McMinn County. Sylvia was a published author and wrote the book “Trail of Dreams.” She was an avid gardener, enjoyed the outdoors, and spending time with family and friends. She was a member of Athens Lutheran Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, David George Wingate; and sister, Jeanie Sheppard.
She is survived by her children, Carol Sillas and husband Martin of Englewood, David Wingate of Keystone Heights, Florida, Mark Wingate and wife Brenda of Colorado, Karen Wingate of Englewood, and Candice McDermott and husband Josh of Madisonville; and sister, Sybil Parker and husband Tommy of Yulee, Florida. Eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and several other extended family members also survive.
A celebration of Life and Home going for Sylvia Jean Wingate will be held at 7p.m. Monday, January 18, 2016 from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m Monday prior to the service.
