Kathryn Marie Smith Swafford age 90, of Athens, passed away Tuesday morning March 1, 2016, at her residence. Born in Niota on September, 26, 1926, to the late Carl and Mabel Marie Crittenden Smith, she was a native and lifelong resident of McMinn County and a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, her flowers and spending time with her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Burley Swafford; sisters, Jean Hughes and Lucille Willis; and brothers, Johnny and David Smith.
She is survived by children and spouses, Carlis and Alyce Swafford of Chattanooga, Deanna and James Ratledge of Riceville, Donald and Diane Swafford of Birchwood, Lynn and Linda Swafford of Athens, Glenda and Heshel Malone of Calhoun, and Evelyn ad Dewayne Watson of Englewood. She has 18 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren; sister, Lily Rogers of Cleveland, and sister-in-law, Eunice Smith of Cleveland. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life and Home going for Kathryn Swafford will be held at 7p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Calvary Baptist Church in Riceville with Brother Jimmy Lewis and Brother Daniel Malone officiating.
Graveside services will be 1p.m. Friday, March 4, 2016 at Calhoun Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. A white dove release will conclude the services.
The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m. Thursday at the Calvary Baptist Church in Riceville.
