Mildred Ellera Goforth, age 73, passed away Monday morning at a local nursing home. She was a native of Kentucky, but had lived in Tennessee most of her life, and specifically in Reliance since 1960.
She is the daughter of William Thomas Smith and Ellen Thornsburg Smith. Mildred loved Jesus and was a founding member of Calvary Church of God. She worked tirelessly in many aspects of the church including using her artistry talent, song writing and singing. She was always working with crafts.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Ray Goforth on May 31, 2013, and one brother, Denver Smith.
She is survived by her children, Mary Ellen McLeroy, James Keith Goforth, Rhonda Carol Goforth, Vicki TeRay Parnell all of Reliance and a special daughter Naomi Coleman ; grandchildren, Erik McLeroy, Niki McLeroy, Adrianne Martin and Alex Martin and special granddaughter Crystal Innis; great grandchildren, Stephen Martin, Aleigha Martin, Lilliana McLeroy,; two brothers, Edgel Smith and Edward Smith; two sisters, Mazie West and Elna Carlson. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Funeral service for Mrs. Goforth will be on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with interment to follow in Campground Cemetery.
The family will receive family and friends from 1-3 p.m. on Thursday prior to the service.
