Richard Leland Duncan, age 75, of Athens, passed away Friday, July 22, 2016, at Tennova Healthcare in Cleveland. Born in Richmond, Indiana on March 6, 1941, to the B.C. and Ruby Riddle Duncan, Richard has spent the majority of his life in McMinn County and was a member of the Mountain View Baptist Church. He enjoyed handing out bubble gum to kids, young and old, going to church, and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by his sisters, Joan Lynn, Patricia Kyle, and Shirley Lawson; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, A.M. "Buster" and Florence Bledsoe.
Survivers include his wife of 37 1/2 years, Margaret Louise Bledsoe Duncan of Athens; sisters, Jean Kile of Etowah, Linda Carver of Athens, and Bobbie Bledsoe and husband Larry of Etowah; sisters-in-law, Elaine Hayward of Cleveland, Jane Watson and husband Benny of Etowah, and brother-in-law, David Bledsoe and wife Billie of Cleveland. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2p.m. Monday, July 25, 2016, from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Brother David Bledsoe, Brother Benny Watson, and Brother Pete Morgan officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery with Larry Lynn Bledsoe, Kenneth Perian, Wade Watson, Scott Godfrey, Paul Harrison, and Bobby Kile serving as active pallbearers, and Brandon and Matthew Perian serving as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2016, at the funeral home.
