Billie Ross Irons

Billie Ross Irons , age 78, of Niota, passed away Monday evening, December 19, 2016, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Born December 8, 1938 to the late William Lester and Gussie Lou Raper Irons, he was born and spent a majority of his life in McMinn County. Bill was a member of Union McMinn Baptist Church and enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.

 In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by brothers, Hoyt and Claude Irons.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Barbara  Ammons Irons of Niota; sons and daughters-in –law, Rodney Lee and Susie Irons of Willow, California, William “ Marty”  and Carmen Irons of Columbus, Ohio,  Gary Lynn and Melodye Irons of Riceville, and Christopher Ross and Missy Irons of Niota; sisters, Carolyn Simpson of Rock Springs, Georgia and Andrea Dockery of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia; and brothers, J.W. Irons and wife Jane of Athens and Mike Irons and wife Linda of Niota. Eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and extended family also survive.

 Family and friends will meet at 11a.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Pond Hill Baptist Church Cemetery for the committal service with Brother Bill Sneed officiating. Dwight Walden, Terry Anderson, J.W. McPhail, Jackie Reed, Jack Raper, and  Brian Richeson will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at the funeral home.
