Pastor Ted E. Watson, age 71 of Englewood, graduated to heaven on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 10:53 p.m. He was a saved born again Christian Baptist Preacher, and broadcaster. He started “The Gospel Radio Broadcast”, in 1975 and ran for 43 years and continues on the air today.
Brother Ted pastored four churches, North Englewood Baptist Church in Englewood, TN, Old Salem Baptist Church in Delano, TN, Lee’s Chapel Baptist Church in Sweetwater, TN and Open Door Missionary Baptist Church in Sweetwater, TN, and also helped with Prospect Methodist Church Cemetery Decoration Day since 1991.
He played baseball at high school and college levels, and semi-pro. He was looked at by the Cincinnati Reds as a high school senior. He was also a Sports Radio Broadcaster on WCPH, WENR & WDEH for about 20 years.
Brother Ted was also drafted into the Vietnam War and was spared combat because of his typing experience. He loved people but loved his family the best. He said, “I’d rather be a stronger family man, than a stronger preacher”.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Charles William Watson and Edith Elaine Watson both of Englewood, one brother, Bill Watson of Englewood; his mother-in-law Arizona Moore of Etowah.
His survivors include his wife of 42 years, Lisa Diane Watson; two sons, Eddy Lynn Watson and Jonathan Michael Watson; father-in-law, Ted Lewis Moore; Jonathan’s fiancé, Brittany Lynn White and her son, Jacob Lee White.
A Celebration of Life and Home going for Pastor Ted Watson will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2018 at Open Door Baptist Church, 1710 Old Highway 68, Sweetwater, TN with Brother Bob McCurry officiating.
Interment will follow in the Sunrise Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service hour at the church.
The family asks that flowers be omitted for memorial contributions to be in the name of Lisa Watson to defray medical and final expenses at Volunteer Federal Bank, 108 Main Street, Madisonville, TN 37354.
