Gary Joe Thompson, Jr.

Gary Joe Thompson, Jr., age 56, passed away on Monday, May 7, 2018.  He was born in Chicago and spent the majority of his life in McMinn County.  Gary was of the Baptist faith and loved playing cards and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gary Joe Thompson, Sr. and Shirley Jean Gore; a brother Terry Martin Thompson and a sister, Donna Jean Bigham.

Survivors include one daughter, Amber Thompson of Athens; one son, Zachary Thompson of Ten Mile; five grandchildren, Kierra Thompson, Aaron Thompson, Kaelyn Roberts, Kali Roberts and Kaleb Roberts; one sister, Patricia and Ricky Debord of Etowah; two brothers, Scotty and Jenie Thompson of South Carolina, and Ricky Thompson of Athens; one aunt Connie Pate of Erwin, TN; one uncle David Thompson of Erwin, TN; cousins, Ronnie Joe Thompson of Erwin, TN and Donnie Thompson of Florida.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

A Gathering of friends will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 6p.m. – 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Serenity Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Etowah.

Interment will be private.
