Alice Vaughn King, age 85, of Athens passed away on Monday morning, May 28, 2018, at NHC Athens. Born on September 9, 1932 in Greenville, South Carolina, to the late Thomas and Solome Dominick Vaughn, she grew up and went to school in Kingsport, Tennessee before living a majority of her life in McMinn County. Alice was a true child of GOD who spent her life studying and teaching the Word of God not only in several local congregations but also traveled the world on missionary journeys. She rarely spoke to anyone without mentioning God or some portion of God’s word. Alice was retired from Bowater Corporation after 42 years of service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph B. King; grandson, Joshua King; sister, Juanita Vaughn; and brothers, Charlie Vaughn and Norman Vaughn.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Ralph “Eddie” and Jamie King of Athens and Norman” Keith” and Jeanne – Marie King of Ten Mile; grandsons and spouses, Anthony King, Jonathan and LeAnn King and Taylor “T.K.” and Charity King; and great-grandchildren, Tyler King and Cadence King. Several nieces, nephews, and other extended family also survive.
A Celebration of Life and Home going for Alice Vaughn King will be held at 7p.m. Friday, June 1, 2018 from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Dr. Tim Gunnells officiating.
Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10:00 am on Saturday morning, June 2, 2018 and proceed to McMinn Memory Gardens for the 11a.m. committal service. Anthony King, Jonathan King, T.K. King, Chris Vaughn, Andy Vaughn, and Dennis King will serve as pallbearers. A white dove release ceremony will conclude the services.
The family will receive friends from 5-7p.m Friday, June 1, 2018 at the funeral home prior to the funeral hour.
