Colleen Newberry, age 78 of Etowah, passed away on Monday morning, August 6, 2018 at her residence. Born on May 16, 1940 in Wisconsin to the late Roy and Dorothy Hoard Schulz, she had lived in McMinn County since 1989 and was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. Colleen had a welcoming spirit and was the ultimate host to everyone who came to her home. She loved swimming, dancing in her youth; and spending time with her family especially her grandkids. She retired from the Etowah Carnegie Library where she served faithfully going above and beyond for her patrons and was a board member of the Friends of The Library.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Glen Newberry; daughter, Debra Newberry; brother, Roger Schulz; and special cousins who were like siblings, Shirley Strauser, Lois Weiland, Howard Cheever and Bob Cheever.
Survivors include daughter, Judy (David) Baker of Athens; grandchildren, Logan Morris of Washington, D.C., Hunter Morris of Charleston, South Carolina, Gretchen Morris of Etowah; and a host of extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life and Home going for Colleen Newberry will be held at 7p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 from the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home with Brother Tim Davis, Sr. officiating.
Graveside services will be at 11a.m. Thursday, August 9, 2018 at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.
