Willie Mae Bill Brown, longtime resident of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away September 12, 2009. Born January 28, 1917, she was one of seven children born to Arlen Jones and Nora Hancock in Alpine, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 66 years, Samuel L. Brown before his passing in March of 2005. She has two surviving sisters, Lou Ledford of Seffner, Florida and Emma Davis of Monroe, Tennessee.
Willie Mae graduated from Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tennessee, where she met her future husband. Prior to her marriage, she was a school teacher. After marriage, she instilled in her children a love of learning, both by instruction and by experience. Bills life was filled with love for her family. She is survived by four daughters, Carolyn Lasseter of Panama City, Florida; Sharon Goode of Cleveland, Tennessee; Pamela Hill-Moss, and husband, Billy B. Moss; of Cleveland, Tennessee and Lisa Davis, and husband David Davis; of Lake City, Florida. Her extensive and cherished family includes eight grandchildren, 17 great grand children and two great-great grandchildren.
Willie Mae Bill loved camping with her family, fishing and enjoying the mountains. She was a voracious reader, loved her garden, working crossword puzzles and cooking. Her chocolate pie and chicken and dumplings were her specialties. She was always ready to share reminiscences of her childhood, and life experiences and could have filled a book with her varied and colorful lifes adventures.
Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m., on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 , at Speck Funeral Home in Livingston, Tennessee. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Billy B. Moss, David Davis, Scott Hill, Kirk Kincannon?, Allen Richardson and Denver Davis. Interment will follow at the Hancock family cemetery in Alpine, Tennessee.
