James S. (Dick) Chambers, age 84, resident of Cleveland, TN, passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2009, in a Chattanooga hospital. He was a dedicated and devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Cleveland, TN. He was retired from Simco Leather Company as General Manager and Co-Owner. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the US Army. He was a member of the Chota Masonic Lodge #253, Scottish Rite and Alhambra Shrine. He was preceded in death by his parents, James B. Chambers and Ethel L. Loveland Chambers, one brother, Byron Chambers, one sister, Dorothy Dawson, one step daughter, Karen Fountain and one step son, Stephen Wilshire.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn Wright Chambers, Cleveland, TN; one son, Richard Chambers, Asheville, N.C.; one daughter, Barbara Denman, Rockford, TN, one step daughter, Susan Hardesty, Longmont, CO; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 18, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Drew Henry officiating. Interment will be held at 3:00 p.m. C.S.T. at Taylor Cemetery in Jamestown, TN. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
The family request in lieu of flowers, memorials please be made to the First United Methodist Church Building Fund 3045 N. Ocoee Street Cleveland, TN 37312.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 17, 2009, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Grissom Funeral Home who has charge of funeral arrangements. Online condolences may be sent to www.grissomfh.net
