Rev Crawford C. Conway, Sr.

October 14, 1942 — April 9, 2007

Rev. Crawford C. Conway, Sr., age 64, resident of Cleveland, went home to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon, April 9, 2007. He passed away in a local hospital with his loving family by his side. Crawford was a retired school teacher after 37 years of dedicated service to the school system. He taught at Waterville Elementary School from 1970 to 2004 and also taught at Salina High School in Salina, Oklahoma from 1965 to 1969. He was a member of the BCEA, TEA and the NEA. Crawford served as president of the BCEA from 1988-1989 and again from 1991-1992. He was presently serving on the Bradley County Board of Education. He was a minister in the Tennessee-Georgia Presbytery of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Board of Missions. He was Presbyterial Represenative to the Coalition on Appalachian Ministries. He was a member of the Camp Glancy Commission. Crawford was Past Moderator, Tennessee-Georgia Presbytery, Past Chairman of the Nominating Committee, Commissioner to the General Assembly, Former Pastor of Pine Hill and Corntassle CP Churches, served as Interim Minister at First Cumberland Presbyterian of Cleveland, Kellys Chapel, Richard City and Silverdale CP Churches. He filled the pulpits of almost every CP church in the Presbytery. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Conway and parents, Joseph Conway and Gladys Acton Conway.

He is survived by four sons and spouses, Joe and Sharon Conway, Cleveland; C.C. and Keri Conway, Cleveland; George Conway, McDonald and Donnie and Alice Couch, Cleveland; three daughters, Julie Hannah, McDonald; Lesa and Rick Hicks, Cleveland and Sharon Morrow, Cleveland; his grandchildren, Josh Couch, Tyler Morrow, Brandon Conway, Ian Conway, Sean Conway, Bailey Hannah, Hannah Conway , Allie Hannah and Emily Conway. Cousins, George and Flora Ann Snyder, Paul Barefield and Ellen Barefield. Special friend of the family, Pansy McIntosh.

A Celebration of the Life and Home Going of Crawford Conway will be held Thursday, April 12, 2007, at 4:00 p.m. at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jim Patterson, Rev. Forest Prosser, Rev. Cliff Hudson and Marvin Kirkpatrick officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Michael Plumley, Jerry Frazier, Teddy Bryson, Russell Kelley, Gerald Lillard, John McIntosh, Marvin Kirkpatrick serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be fellow ministers in the Tennessee-Georgia Presbytery. The family requests in lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Camp Glancy c/o First Cumberland Presbyterian Church 161 2nd Street NE. Cleveland, TN 37311.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 11, 2007, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Grissom Funeral Home and on Thursday, April 12, 2007, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the church.
