Cecil Melton Davis, age 94, resident of Cleveland, TN, passed away Friday, July 4, 2008, in a local nursing home where he had been a resident for the past 3 years. He was born April 15, 1914 in Cleveland, TN. He was formerly of Farragut, TN. He was a self employed contractor. He was a member of the Concord Baptist Church in Farragut, TN. He was a member of the Chattanooga Home Builders Assn and he was also a member of the Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Davis, one brother, R. L. Davis, sister, Mary Lou McClelland and one grandson, Teddy McDowell.
He is survived by one son, Charles Davis, Rydal, GA; one daughter and son in law, Jean and Edward McDowell, Bonaire, GA; grandson and his wife, Terence and Leslie McDowell, Seven Lakes, N.C., granddaughters and their spouses, Stacy and Gary Black, Cleveland, GA, Melanie and Randy Pratt, Bonaire, GA, Cindy and Tim Steckbauer, Kennesaw, GA, Christy and Matt Maddox, Comer, GA; sisters, Frances Lyles, Avon, Ohio, Irene Cavitt, Cleveland, TN and Lorraine and her husband, Polo, Villarreal, Cleveland, TN; 13 great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 6, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home with Dr. Jay McCluskey and Minister Tom Harrison officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with family members serving as pallbearers.
