Conrad E. Day, age 90, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2010 in a local hospital. He was the By Ned cartoonist published daily in the Cleveland Banner and the author of the book By Ned, a compilation of 30 years of his best cartoons. He was well known within the community as the former owner of Minit Check, and from having been involved in the grocery business most of his life. He was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church for over 80 years. He was a 50 year member of the Cleveland Masonic Lodge and a member of the Cleveland Hunting, Rifle, and Pistol Club.

Mr. Day was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Edgar Happy Day and Minnie Day; daughter, Connie Day; and brother, Cullman Day.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Josephine Day; two sisters, Deatrice Ragsdale and Fatina Murray, both of Cleveland; nephews, Jack Green of Cleveland and Danny Day of Chattanooga; and nieces, Debbie Arthur of Cleveland, and Wanda Brown of North Carolina.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Pastor Reed Shell and Pastor Debbie Stokes officiating. Entombment will follow at Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Donald McKerley, Jack Green, A. J. Arthur, Ted Hall, Jeff Morelock, and David Smith serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home, and also on Friday from 1-2 p.m. at Broad Street United Methodist Church prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Prayer-Evangelism Memorial Fund, which was begun years ago in honor of Connie Day. Memorials may be sent to the Fund in care of Broad St. UMC, P. O. Box 3, Cleveland, TN 37364.
