John E. Dorflinger, Sr., 90, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Thursday, May 03, 2007 in a Knoxville hospital. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. He was a life-time member of the University of South Carolina Alumni Association and a football letterman. He retired from Bowater. He was preceded in death by is wife, Nena Coleman Dorflinger; parents, Emil and Sophie Worlick Dorflinger; and two brothers, Edmund Dorflinger and Stewart Dorflinger.
Survivors include one son, John Dorflinger, Jr. and his wife, Martha of Knoxville, TN; one daughter, Gail D. Marino and her husband, Gary of Boca Raton, FL; four grandchildren, John Dorflinger III, Tanya Marino, Kimberly Marino and David Marino; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Joe Tanner officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cleveland YMCA, 220 Urbane Road, Cleveland, TN 37312 or to the Gold Coast Down Syndrome Organization of Palm Beach County Florida, 5300 Broken Sound Blvd., NW, 2nd Floor, Boca Raton, FL 33487.
