Howard Fulton

Howard Foster Fulton, 96, died Saturday, June 13,2009, in Cleveland, Tennessee.

He was a communicant of St. Lukes Episcopal Church in Cleveland.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mary Frances Foster and James Howard Fulton; one sister Jean Fulton Dixon; and three brothers, John Casselman Fulton, William Charles Fulton, and Robert Donald Fulton.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Ethel Evelyn Leith Fulton; one son, James Howard Fulton, Decatur, Georgia; two daughters: Margaret Fulton Busbin and her husband John, Rome, Georgia, and Judith Fulton Varnell, Cleveland, Tennessee; two sisters: Catherine Fulton Martin and her husband, Lynton and Anne Fulton Sullivan and her husband James; grandchildren: Mary Angela Rhodes, Shelley Rhodes Heckenberg and Scott, Jodi Rhodes Jones and Jason, Kate Rhodes Garmon and Kevin, Marny Varnell Birkitt and John, Robert Wayne Varnell III, Kristin Marie Montelione Fulton, Megan Montelione Fulton, and seven great grandchildren.

He was born in Chesterville, Ontario, Canada, on January 17, 1913, and graduated from Queens University in 1936 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. For forty years, he worked in the newspaper production industry, retiring from Bowaters Southern, Inc., in the 1970s. He was a past member of the Lions Club, Cherokee Plungers and Hedgers, and the Cleveland Country Club.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 in the parish hall at St. Lukes on Monday, June 15, 2009. The funeral will be held at St. Lukess Episcopal Church at 2:30 with Reverend Perry Scruggs officiating. Internment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with Harrison Brown, Kevin Garmon, Scott Heckenberg, Jason Jones, Tony Schlaeger, and Robert Varnell serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are the members of The Cherokee Plungers and Hedgers.
