George W. Glass, Sr., 76, a resident of Cleveland, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2007 peacefully at his home. He was an active member of the Westmore Church of God where he served as an usher and prayer partner. He was also active in community service. He was a member of the Republican Party and served for 25 years at the George R. Stuart Election Commission. He was an avid music lover and strong supporter of the Cumberland Mountain Play House. He was a former Foreman at Atlas Chemical. He taught air conditioning and refrigeration at Bradley High School and Cleveland State Community College.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ray Charles Glass; parents, Rev. G. H. and Ethel Buchanan Glass; brother, Ray Glass who was killed serving in Italy during World War II; and two sisters, Grace Taylor and Christine Biggerstaff.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Lois Hicks Glass of Cleveland; two sons, George Glass and wife Rebecca of Cleveland and Dr. Robert (Gary) Glass and wife Laurie of Gallatin, TN; one daughter, Kimberly Marie Glass of Roanoke, VA; one brother, Robert Glass and wife Bea of Spruce Pine, NC; two sisters, Helen Rossman of Johnson City, TN and Dr. Ruth Glass and special friend Dr. Marion Neil, of Thomasville, GA; ten grandchildren, Minda Anne Bostic and husband Jeff, Garrett, Nathan, Tessa, Anna Marie, Amy, Jordan, Stewart, Stephen, and Emily Rae; one great grandchild, Dylan Bostic; and special friends, Faye and Jadrin Goldston.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Westmore Church of God with Pastor Kelvin Page, Rev. Wendell Smith and Rev. Floyd McClung officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Springs Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Westmore Church of God building fund.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 5-8 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home which has charge of the arrangements.
