Joseph Martin Good III was born November 18, 1927 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. He spent two years in the Army Medical Corps, and ten years in the U. S. Army Reserve. He received both a Bachelors degree in 1950, and a Masters degrees in 1953 from Emory University. While attending Graduate School at Emory University, he met and married the love of his life, Janice Elizabeth Bruner on March 17, 1951 at the chapel on the Emory University Campus. Dr. Good earned his Doctoral Degree (PhD) in Nematology from the University of Florida in 1955. His career was spent as researcher, educator and administrator in Agricultural Research Service for the United States Department of Agriculture. He and his wife, Janice (deceased January 4, 2006) resided in Clewiston, Florida and as well as on the family farm, Willis Springs, in south east Polk County, Tennessee. Joe and Janice have enjoyed working in many programs of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks in four Lodges. They had two sons, both now deceased: the oldest was John Walter Good (1959-1992), and the youngest was William Randall Good (1962-2003). Dr. Good was passionate about the study of agriculture and the study of history"particularly the history of Polk County, Tennessee, where his family roots trace back to the 1880s. His biggest passion was the family farm, Willis Springs on the Connasauga River, where he passed away in peace Tuesday morning, January 16, 2007, at 3:00 AM. Joe Good is survived by his daughter-in-law, Tanya Good, and his granddaughter, Lauren Good (both of Macon, Georgia), the wife and daughter of his oldest son, John, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
