Ruby Lee Green, 77, passed away peacefully at her home on October 7, 2008
after a long and brave struggle with Alzheimers.
She was born in Cleveland on April 23, 193l to John and Ethel Brown. Ruby attended
Charleston School in Charleston, TN and earned her certification as a Nurses Aide from
Bradley Memorial Hospital.
She was retired from Bradley Memorial Hospital after more than 28 years of service on the
OB floor. The mothers and babies born during those years were her passion and she
brought her love for them to work each day. After retirement, her joy was her home and
family. Walking in her neighborhood and spending time in her swing with her birds, flowers,
and special companion Scruffy brought her peace and laughter. Her girls at Cookes Deli
were special and she enjoyed the meals they prepared for her. Grandchildren and great-
grandchildren brought a smile of love to her face. Having her son, Bill, with her during the last
years to write songs for her, play his guitar and sing to her, travel to Dollywood, and care for
her was a very special blessing. The constant, loving, and tender care given by baby daughter,
Lisa, allowed her to be at home surrounded by family during her final days.
Ruby loved to travel, beginning her many journeys as a teenager traveling across the country
to San Francisco. She loved traveling with her family and spent many vacations at Florida,
Alabama, and North Carolina beaches. Special trips that brought her joy were Seattle, Las
Vegas, Dallas, and returning to San Francisco and a nostalgic visit to Half Moon Bay.
Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, William (Buck) Green; parents, Ethel and John
Brown; brother, John Franklin Brown; and special love, Roy C. Bud Henry.
Ruby leaves behind a family who will cherish her memory in their hearts: daughters, Becky
and Steve Kennedy, Libbye and J.C. Eldridge, Lisa Patterson and Elizabeth Gregg: sons,
William (Bill) Green and David and Debby Green; grandchildren, Scott Eldridge, Manda
Shaun Harvey, Kirtis Green, Laura Green, Catherine Mickens, Emily Green, David Green Jr.,
Sierra Patterson, and Steve Hassell; great-grandchildren Taylor Green, Kayla Green, Carter
Green, Lola Mickens, and Liam Dougherty; sister, Frances Hicks. And her special canine companion Scruffy .
