Caroline E. Grothe, age92, resident of Cleveland, TN, passed away early Wednesday morning, September 3, 2008., in a local nursing home. She was born April 9, 1916 in Kouts, Indiana. Formerly of St. Louis, Missouri, Caroline had moved to Tennessee following the death of her husband, Rev. A. F. Grothe, a retired professor from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO. A long time Cardinals Fan, Caroline enjoyed listening to the games on her satellite radio and she especially appreciated Mike Shannons familiar voice.
She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Jonathan and Lois Grothe, daughter and son in law, Margaret and Rev. Robert Seaton, pastor of First Lutheran Church in Cleveland, TN; 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and many other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 8, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Village Lutheran Church in LaDue, Missouri with The Rev. Richard Warneck officiating. Interment will follow in Concordia Cemetery in St. Louis, MO. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Caroline expressed faith in Jesus as her savior in many ways and was a baptized member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. The words of this hymn were often on her heart. Should Thy mercy send me, Sorrow, toil, and woe, or should pain attend me on my path below, Bring to my remembrance sad Gethsemane, Or, in darker semblance, Cross-Crowned Calvary!
