James Hammonds

James M. Hammonds, age 68, resident of Cleveland, TN, passed away in a Bowling Green, Kentucky hospital on Tuesday, May 25, 2010. He faithfully attended Center Point Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College. He was a retired agent with the Internal Revenue Service. He served in the United States Air Force. He was a well known accountant. He was preceded in death by his son, Matt Hammonds and his parents, James Samuel Hammonds and Ruby Melton Hammonds.

He is survived by his wife, Kay Hammonds; one daughter in law, Mandi Hammonds and grandchildren, Logan Cross Hammonds and Lyndsey Cross Hammonds. Several cousins and a host of friends also survive.

The funeral service will be held Friday, May 28, 2010, at 8:00 p.m. at Grissom Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Gardner and Rev. Reed Wright officiating. Interment will be held Saturday, May 29, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Calhoun Baptist Church Cemetery with Jim Byrne, Robert Harbison, Bruce Renner, Al Fine, Jo Shamblin and Jimmy Hill serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Gibson, Charlie Snow, Denny Norman, Beau Burris, Scott McGowan and Wade Ledford.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Matt Hammonds Baseball Scholarship Fund c/o Walker Valley High School Charleston, TN.
